Philadelphia Phillies Linked to Veteran Outfielder as Trade Target
Kamil Krzaczynski-USA TODAY Sports

There hasn’t been a team playing better than the Philadelphia Phillies in 2024. Despite having to navigate some injuries to key players such as Trea Turner, the team holds the best record in the MLB.

At 34-14, the team has cemented their status as true contenders not only in the National League but all of baseball. In the coming weeks, the team will identify areas of the team to upgrade ahead of the 2024 MLB trade deadline.

Given how well the team is playing, some reinforcements to fortify the roster, not a huge splash, is the likely route the team takes. Over at the Philadelphia Inquirer, David Murphy identified rental trade targets the Phillies could have.

One of the players who made the list was Chicago White Sox outfielder Tommy Pham. A well-traveled veteran, Pham would be a great pick-up to bolster the Philadelphia Phillies bench unit.

“Steady veteran with postseason experience, including that big home run against the Phillies in last year’s NLCS. Signed a one-year deal with the White Sox after spring training,” wrote Murphy.

Pham didn’t sign with the White Sox until after Spring Training, which delayed his regular season debut until April 26th. He agreed to a one-year, $3 million deal, which is almost certainly going to be a valuable deal for Chicago.

While they would certainly have preferred winning more games, they are going to be sellers ahead of the deadline. Turning Pham into some prospects to add to their rebuild would be considered a win for the franchise.

In 21 games, Pham has been excellent for the White Sox. He has a slash line of .333/.379/.481 with two home runs, 10 RBI, six doubles and three stolen bases.

The Philadelphia Phillies will assuredly be facing competition on the trade market for a player of Pham’s caliber. He is capable of playing all three outfield positions and brings 31 games of postseason experience along with him.
