Danielle Collins hilariously calls herself ‘GRANNY’ after creating record of winning 15 consecutive matches

Danielle Collins is playing her in her last season and has been producing impressive performances. She created a record of winning 15 consecutive matches on the WTA Tour since 2015, when Serena Williams achieved the feat.

The 30-year-old reacted to a post that praised her for becoming the oldest player to script that record. Her impressive run this year started with her winning the Miami Open by beating Elena Rybakina. That was also her first final at the WTA 1000 event.

Collins then lifted back-to-back titles when she won the Charleston Open as well by storming past Daria Kasatkina. This made Collins the first woman since Williams in 2013 to clinch the Miami Open and Charleston Open in the same year. In Madrid as well, Collins continued her winning ways by beating Olga Danilović and Jaqueline Christian in three sets, before losing to Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka in the Round of 16.

It was Sabalenka who finally ended the American’s 15-match win streak. As Collins scripted the story at 30, a post applauded her, which received a hilarious reaction from her. She shared the post on her Instagram story with a hilarious caption, calling herself a granny.

Who would of thought a granny like me could win 15 matches?  Danielle Collins wrote on Instagram Stories

Serena Williams was Danielle Collins’ idol

During a recent interview with Tennis Channel, Danielle Collins revealed Serena Williams was her idol while growing up. Collins heaped praise on the 23-time Grand Slam champion and her sister Venus Williams for their success.

Growing up, Serena was my idol. I think the Williams sisters taught all of us it doesn’t matter where you come from. It doesn’t matter what you look like, your background, or how much money your parents have. If you set your mind to something and work your tail off, anything is possible. Danielle Collins told Tennis Channel

Collins added that, like Williams’s sister, even she was coached by her dad. The 30-year-old recalled the times when her parents used to have double and triple shifts so that she could fulfill her dream of becoming a professional tennis player.

Collins has already lifted two titles and is eyeing more this year, but she won’t take a U-turn on her retirement decision. She announced her retirement after losing to Iga Swiatek in the second round of this year’s Australian Open.
